March MasterClass Practice Protocol
‘Dig-a Rut’ Process
Repetition of a piece/section digs a ‘rut’ in the memory/motor bank.
Remembering the piece or section without reading makes for permanent learning/
*Select a the piece or section in the piece with instructor.
*’Dig-a-Rut’ deeper and deeper
1-put the music away and see how much can be remembered without looking.
2- Select a section and dig a deeper rut…i.e.to work on more efficient playing and/or memory
3-Avoid ‘binge’ practice…put the music away before it’s completely memorized. Later, “Drive By” and play it again to see how deep the rut became and is it error free?
